Bangladesh’s national election could take place by the end of this year, said Interim Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus in an exclusive interview with Japan’s NHK.
Reflecting on the country’s progress, Dr. Yunus stated that when the interim government assumed power, Bangladesh was grappling with a crisis across its economy, political system, and judiciary. “We have come a long way,” he said, emphasizing the administration’s efforts to stabilize the nation.
On the election timeline, he remarked, “The earliest possible time for the election is late this year. Whenever it happens, those elected will have a strong foundation to lead.”
Dr. Yunus also spoke about the aspirations of young Bangladeshis, highlighting their eagerness to showcase creativity and connect with the global community. “We are committed to supporting their vision. Let’s see how far we can go,” he added.
Liberty News’ national affairs correspondent states that Dr. Yunus expressed gratitude to Japan, one of Bangladesh’s key development partners, and acknowledged its role in fostering economic opportunities. “Japan’s technology and financial assistance have created employment pathways for Bangladesh’s youth,” he noted.
