Bangladesh anticipates receiving approximately $3.6 billion in budget support from development partners by the end of June, according to Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed.

In a pre-recorded speech aired on Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar during the presentation of the proposed national budget for the 2025–26 fiscal year, Dr. Ahmed stated, “We expect to receive around $3.6 billion in budgetary support from various development partners by June of the current fiscal year.”

The finance adviser noted that Bangladesh’s current account balance is steadily improving, thanks to stronger export growth compared to imports.

Between July and March of the current fiscal year, export earnings rose by 9.45%, while imports grew by 5.57% over the same period last year. As a result, the current account deficit narrowed significantly, from $4.4 billion in March 2024 to just $0.66 billion by March 2025, Dr. Ahmed said.

He acknowledged that the government’s austerity measures have slowed the pace of development projects, which in turn has delayed the disbursement of project-linked foreign loans.

During the July–March period, disbursement of medium- and long-term foreign loans fell by 19% year-on-year, totaling $4.48 billion, he added.

Dr. Ahmed expressed optimism, stating, “If we can bring inflation down to the desired level, the implementation of development projects will regain momentum.”
