Bangladesh has set a new record in remittances, surpassing the $3 billion mark for the first time in a single month. The milestone was reached in March, as reported on Sunday.
According to Bangladesh Bank data, expatriate Bangladeshis sent over $2.94 billion by March 26. With more than $100 million remitted in the final days of the month, the total crossed the $3 billion threshold well ahead of March’s end.
Liberty News’ economic correspondent states that this marks the first time in the country’s history that such a high amount has been sent in a month, surpassing the previous record set in December, when $2.63 billion was remitted. The surge in remittances continues to provide critical financial support to Bangladesh’s economy.
