World football’s governing body FIFA updated its men’s rankings today, with Bangladesh climbing one place to 183rd from 184th in the global list.

In the previous rankings, published on September 18, following the September international window, Bangladesh had remained static at 184. However, in the latest update released today, Hamza Choudhury and Jamal Bhuyan’s side have moved up one position.

During the October FIFA window, Bangladesh played two Asian Cup qualifying matches against Hong Kong, China — one at home and one away. Despite losing 3–4 in the home fixture, the men in red and green earned a 1–1 draw in the away match. Hong Kong, China, is ranked 38 places higher than Bangladesh, and securing a draw on their turf helped boost Bangladesh’s ranking points, resulting in a slight upward shift in position.

The next and final FIFA window of 2025 will be in November. Bangladesh are scheduled to host India on November 18 in Dhaka. The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) is also working to arrange an additional friendly match at home before that fixture. Victories in those games could further improve Bangladesh’s ranking.

Meanwhile, Spain has retained the top spot in the global standings. Reigning world champions Argentina climbed one place to second, while former champions France dropped to third. Among Asian nations, Japan continues to lead the region at 19th.
