Nabil Irfan, a 21-year-old midfielder born to Bangladeshi parents in Qatar, has been named in Qatar’s national squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, marking a significant milestone in his football journey.
The Qatar Football Association officially announced Nabil’s inclusion for the crucial qualifiers against Iran and Uzbekistan under Spanish head coach Julen Lopetegui.
Nabil, who plays for Al-Wakrah SC in the Qatar Stars League, began his football career at the Aspire Academy and made his senior club debut at just 17 during the 2021–22 season.
Born in Al-Wakrah in 2004 to parents hailing from Brahmanbaria, Bangladesh, Nabil has consistently represented Qatar at various youth levels, including U-16, U-20, and U-23 teams. He even faced Bangladesh during the AFC U-16 Championship qualifiers.
Primarily a defensive midfielder, Nabil is also adept at playing right-back, drawing comparisons with Hamza Choudhury, another footballer of Bangladeshi heritage.
Nabil’s rise to the senior national team highlights the growing influence of Bangladeshi-origin players in international football, joining names like Jamal Bhuiyan, Fahmidul Islam, and Kazem Shah who have drawn similar attention.
