Bangladesh U17 secured a hard-fought 27-run victory over Sri Lanka U17 on the final day of the opening three-day match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on Saturday.
Resuming the third day on 230 for 8, the hosts added only 17 more runs before being dismissed for 247. Junayed Hossain, who had held the innings together with remarkable patience on Day 2, fell agonisingly short of a deserved century, dismissed for a gritty 87 off 219 balls. His departure opened the door for a swift lower-order collapse, but the total ultimately proved challenging enough.
Set a target of 266, Sri Lanka began brightly through opener Arosha Sithumina, whose brisk 40 off 42 balls injected early momentum into the chase. Bangladesh, however, maintained control with timely breakthroughs that prevented any substantial partnerships from forming. Sanul Weeraratne’s composed 61 off 134 offered Sri Lanka a lifeline, but once he was removed, the innings unravelled.
Sri Lanka were eventually bowled out for 238, falling short despite pockets of resistance.
Md Rakibul Hossain spearheaded Bangladesh’s attack with an impressive four-wicket haul, while Sahidul Islam, Nubayet Alam and Mb Maheenujjaman Mahabir chipped in with two wickets apiece.
The second and final three-day match of the series will be played at Bashundhara Sports City Cricket Ground from 2 December
