Sathira Zakir Jessie umpired in the U-19 Asia Cup in Malaysia few days ago. This time, she is going to umpire on a stage like the World Cup. This tournament will also be held in Malaysia.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the names of 20 match officials for the 2025 Women’s U-19 T20 World Cup in a media release today. Of these, 16 are umpires and four will be match referees.

Bangladesh’s Jessie is one of those sixteen umpires. A maximum of two umpires will be from the Netherlands, India and the West Indies. Like Bangladesh, there will be one umpire each from Australia, Pakistan, South Africa, Qatar, the United States, Zimbabwe, Oman, Ireland and Sri Lanka in the tournament.

Jessie has umpired in major events before. She was an umpire in the Women’s Asia Cup held in Sri Lanka in the T20 edition in 2024. Jessie was the on-field umpire in the Sri Lanka-India final last year in Dambulla. Salima Imtiaz was the on-field umpire in that title-deciding final along with the Bangladesh umpire. Salima will also be an umpire in the Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup this time.

The second Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup is starting in Malaysia on January 18. The final of this 16-team tournament will be on February 2. Bangladesh’s opponents in Group ‘D’ in the World Cup this time are Australia, Nepal and Scotland.

Liberty News has observed that Jessie will be the first Bangladeshi female umpire to take part in the World Cup.
