To facilitate smooth financial transactions for sacrificial cattle traders and customers, banks near cattle markets in Dhaka and Chattogram will remain open from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM daily until the day before Eid-ul-Azha.
The Bangladesh Bank issued a circular on Thursday directing scheduled banks to operate extended banking hours in Dhaka North, Dhaka South, and Chattogram City Corporation areas where sacrificial cattle markets are set up.
The circular stated that large gatherings and significant cash transactions are expected at these temporary markets, making secure and accessible banking services essential.
As part of this special arrangement, branches located near the cattle markets will provide regular banking services until 6:00 PM. From 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM, banks have been advised to operate under evening banking arrangements to support continued transactions.
To further enhance convenience, banks have been encouraged to set up temporary booths at the cattle markets, at their discretion, ensuring facilities for cash deposits, withdrawals, and account openings. These measures are to be implemented while maintaining adequate security.
Additionally, Bangladesh Bank has instructed that staff assigned to these extended services be provided with special allowances for their duties during the Eid season.
The initiative aims to ensure secure, uninterrupted financial services during one of the country’s most significant religious festivals, when cash flow in cattle markets sharply increases.
