Film stars Bappy Chowdhury and Mahiya Mahi made their debut in Dhallywood with the movie “Bhalobasar Rong” about 13 years ago. Directed by Shahin Suman, the film is regarded as the first Bangladeshi digital cinema. It was a commercial success at the time, introducing a new on-screen duo to Dhallywood.
Following their debut, Bappy and Mahi appeared together in several films. The pair was last seen on screen in “Paloke Paloke Tomake Chai” directed by Shahnewaz Shanu in 2018. Since then, they had not been seen working together.
Recently, Bappy Chowdhury shared a picture with Mahiya Mahi on her Facebook page on Wednesday, captioned, “After a long time with buddy.” The post drew warm wishes from fans, many of whom expressed nostalgia for the popular on-screen pair.
However, it remains unclear what Mahi meant by “10 years later together,” since the two were last seen in “Onek Dame Kena” (2016) and “Paloke Paloke Tomake Chai” (2018).
It has been learned that both Bappy and Mahi are currently staying in the United States. It may be mentioned that the two met after a long break at a function hosted by noted film director Kazi Hayat’s son actor Kazi Maruf on Wednesday to celebrate his wedding anniversary.
Both stars were visibly emotional upon reuniting with their former co-star, reminiscing about old times and catching up.
Mahiya Mahi had stepped away from the cinema to pursue a career in politics. After her political venture did not go as planned, she announced a return to films, though she has yet to resume acting.
The actress moved to the United States last year. Bappy, who was also absent from the screen for some time, relocated there recently as well.
Before leaving, he commented that the Bangladeshi film industry had not utilised his potential properly.
