Fortune Barishal has successfully defended their Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) title with a dramatic win over Chattogram Kings. Chasing a challenging target of 195, Barishal secured victory with three wickets and three balls to spare, thanks to explosive batting from Tamim Iqbal, Kyle Mayers, and an incredible late cameo from Rishad Hossain.
In a nail-biting final at Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Chattogram Kings posted a formidable 194/3 after being put in to bat. Parvez Hossain Emon and Khawaja Nafay struck fifties, while Graham Clark provided crucial late runs.
In response, Barishal got off to a flying start, led by veteran opener Tamim Iqbal, who smashed a 24-ball half-century. However, after Tamim’s departure for 54, Barishal momentarily lost momentum. The innings was steadied by Caribbean power-hitter Kyle Mayers, who struck 46 runs off 32 balls, including three fours and three sixes, before falling to Shoriful Islam.
Liberty News’ sports correspondent reports that with the match hanging in the balance, young all-rounder Rishad Hossain turned the game in Barishal’s favor with an explosive unbeaten knock of 18 runs off just six balls, finishing the chase in style with two sixes.
