Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has formally terminated its settlement agreement with S.Q. Sports Enterprise Ltd., the former owners of the Chittagong Kings franchise, and is seeking to recover USD 3.78 (Tk46 cr) million in outstanding dues from multiple editions of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
According to a statement issued on Thursday, the company repeatedly failed to meet legal and financial commitments for the first two editions of the BPL in 2012 and 2013, including unpaid franchise fees, tax liabilities, and salaries owed to players and staff. The BCB said it had issued multiple reminders and legal notices over the years without resolution.
A settlement deal reached in September 2024 collapsed when S.Q. Sports Enterprise failed to make any payment, prompting the board to end the agreement on July 22, 2025, and lodge an updated claim for USD 3,782,156.16 (Tk46 cr). This total includes the original outstanding sum of USD 1.55 million and more than USD 2.23 million in interest accrued between 2012 and 2025.
The BCB added that the figure also reflects payments it made on the franchise’s behalf, as well as the impact of currency depreciation over the years. Under the latest legal notice, the company is no longer entitled to settle the matter for the previously agreed amount of BDT 35 million.
The board further alleged that S.Q. Sports Enterprise also left unpaid dues from the 11th edition of the BPL, covering obligations to players, coaches, hotels and vendors. It said it is continuing “to take all available legal remedies” to recover the outstanding amounts.
