The interim government has proposed BDT 405.2 crores in the 2025–26 national budget to support the families of those killed or injured during the July mass uprising, with initiatives for financial aid, medical care, and rehabilitation.
In a landmark move to honour the July mass uprising, the interim government on Monday unveiled a proposal to allocate Tk 405.2 crore in the upcoming fiscal year for the welfare of affected families. The announcement came as part of the national budget presentation by Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed at 3 PM.
Addressing the Advisory Council and the nation, Dr. Ahmed stated that a new agency — the July Mass Uprising Directorate — has been established to oversee support efforts. Alongside financial aid, the government is formulating a comprehensive policy to ensure proper rehabilitation, including healthcare services for the injured and long-term support for the martyrs’ families.
Additionally, Ganabhaban, the official residence of the head of government, is set to be transformed into a memorial museum, marking a symbolic tribute to the events of the uprising.
This marks the 54th national budget for Bangladesh and the first under the interim government led by Nobel laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus. The budget proposal was earlier approved in an Advisory Council meeting held at noon on the same day.
The initiative signals a strong political commitment to preserving the memory of the July movement and acknowledging the sacrifices made during that historic event.
