Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized 32 Indian goats, 10 sheep, a truck, and a pickup van worth Tk 2.47 crore during a special drive in Brahmanbaria’s Shahbazpur area along the Dhaka–Sylhet highway.
A special patrol team of the 25th BGB Battalion conducted the operation on Friday (May 9), acting on a tip-off. The drive was carried out in the presence of the Sarail Upazila Nirbahi Officer, with support from police and BGB personnel forming a joint task force.
During the raid, the team detained Yakub Ali, 29, a resident of Potkhali village in Sharsha upazila of Jashore district. Authorities confiscated 32 Rajasthan-origin Totapuri goats, 10 sheep, one medium-sized truck, and a pickup van. The estimated market value of the seized items stands at Tk 2.47 crore.
Lieutenant Colonel Jabbar Ahmed, commanding officer of the 25 BGB Battalion, confirmed the seizure and emphasized that the battalion remains committed to curbing cross-border smuggling. “We are taking all necessary measures to prevent illegal entry of livestock and other contraband from India through the Brahmanbaria border,” he said, adding that similar operations will continue.
