Voting for the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) is currently taking place at two centres in Dhaka and Chattogram to elect directors for the 2025–2027 term.

Polling began at 8:00 AM on Saturday at Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel in Dhaka and Radisson Blu Hotel Chattogram Bay View. It will continue until 5:00 PM.

This long-awaited election comes more than seven months after the previous board was dissolved amid political unrest.

A total of 76 candidates from three different panels are contesting for 35 director positions. The Forum and Sammilito Parishad panels have fielded candidates for all posts, while Oikko Parishad has nominated candidates for six positions.

Following the vote, the elected directors will select the BGMEA president, vice-presidents, and other key office bearers.

Sammilito Parishad, led by Abul Kalam, has announced a 12-point election manifesto. Forum, under Mahmud Hasan Khan, presented a 14-point agenda, while Oikko Parishad, led by Mohammad Mohsin, pledged a 16-point commitment focusing on reform and innovation in the RMG sector.

The election outcome is expected to shape the future direction of Bangladesh’s apparel industry, a vital sector in the national economy.
