Tariq Litu, Dhaka: Ahead of the upcoming National Media Week, the Bangladesh Mofussil Journalists Forum (BMSF) has urged the government to grant official recognition to the observance. BMSF leaders stated that this year, the 9th edition of National Media Week will be observed across the country from May 1-7, making state recognition crucial.

The demand was made by BMSF Trustee Board Chairman Ahmed Abu Zafar during an iftar gathering on Friday at Topkhana Road in the capital. The event, organized by BMSF, was attended by journalists, well-wishers, and prominent personalities.

Speakers at the event included Stamford University professor Dr. Kamruzzaman Ahmed Mazumdar, Sabuj Andolon Chairman Bappi Sardar, NPS Chairman Advocate Mahbubul Islam, and women’s rights activist Momtaz Begum, among others. Several legal advisors and journalist leaders of BMSF also participated in the discussion.

BMSF leaders emphasized the need for both official recognition of National Media Week and the restructuring of expired regional committees within the organization. They also reiterated their 14-point demand and called for unity against journalist oppression.

The prayer session was led by BMSF Joint General Secretary Dr. Tawhid Hasan, while the event was moderated by Abdul Baten Bacchu.
