A violent clash between two factions of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in Chuadanga resulted in the death of one BNP leader, while four others were injured.

On Saturday, March 8, at around 10:30 AM, two factions of BNP clashed in Titudaha village, located in Titudaha Union, Chuadanga. The conflict, stemming from a power struggle over the distribution of VGF (Vulnerable Group Feeding) cards, turned deadly when members of one faction, led by Union President Milan Mia, attacked Rofiq (48), a former organizing secretary of Titudaha Union BNP, with machetes. Rofiq died at the scene.

Rofiq, a father of two, was the son of Rahim Mallik and a respected local leader. His brother Shafique, along with BNP leaders Milan, Toton, and Rofikul, were injured in the attack and are receiving treatment at Chuadanga General Hospital.

Ismail Hossain, Secretary of BNP’s Ward 9, confirmed that tensions had been escalating for several days over the VGF card distribution, with the dispute meant to be settled in a union meeting on the day of the incident.

Liberty News’ crime correspondent states that following the incident, Chuadanga’s Additional Police Superintendent (Crime and Operations) Konok Kumar Das, Assistant Police Superintendent Zakia Sultana, and Officer-in-Charge Shahid Titumir from the Darshana Police Station arrived at the scene. The police confirmed that Rofiq had been murdered and several others were injured. The investigation is ongoing, and additional police forces have been deployed to maintain security in the area. The victim’s body was sent to the morgue for an autopsy.
