A high-profile delegation from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), including party leader Tarique Rahman’s daughter Zaima Rahman, engaged with prominent US figures Robert A. Destro and David Beasley during a series of meetings in Washington, DC, ahead of the National Prayer Breakfast.
A three-member delegation from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) met with key American figures Robert A. Destro and David Beasley during a visit to Washington on Wednesday. The meeting comes just ahead of the annual National Prayer Breakfast, which draws political and faith leaders from around the world.
The BNP delegation included party acting chairman Tarique Rahman’s daughter, Zaima Rahman, who traveled to Washington from London to represent her father. Joining her were BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Standing Committee Member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury.
During the meeting with Robert A. Destro, the former US Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labour, the BNP delegation engaged in discussions on human rights, democracy, and Bangladesh’s political landscape. Destro, who is currently working with the Trump administration’s transition team, has a long history of advocating for civil and human rights.
Earlier, the delegation had an audience with former South Carolina Governor David Beasley, who is also known for his significant work with the World Food Programme. Their discussions were aimed at strengthening ties and sharing perspectives on global issues.
Liberty News’ internatioinal correspondent states that, the meetings were part of the BNP’s diplomatic engagement, timed with the National Prayer Breakfast, a major event that fosters dialogue among political, business, and religious leaders.
