After 17 long years, former State Minister for Home Affairs, Md. Lutfulzaman Babar, is returning to his ancestral home in Netrokona today (Sunday). The district BNP and its allied organizations are making extensive preparations for his arrival. Netrokona is being decorated, there is an atmosphere of joy among the supporters & activists.
Babar’s home is located in Madan Upazila of Netrokona. He served as a Member of Parliament three times from the Netrokona-4 (Madan-Mohanganj-Khaliaganj) constituency.
The people of the upazila are excited about Babar’s return, ready to welcome their “son of the house.” Colorful arches have been set up in every village, ward, neighborhood of Madan Pourashava. From tea stalls to offices and courts, everyone is discussing the same topic.
In 1991, he was elected as a Member of Parliament from Netrokona-4 constituency as a candidate of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). Later, in the 8th National Parliament election of 2001, he was re-elected as an MP and served as the Minister of State for Home Affairs in the cabinet of Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.
After serving 17 years in prison, the former State Minister for Home Affairs was released on January 16. On January 30, while on his way to perform the holy Umrah in Saudi Arabia, he fell ill in Dubai. After receiving treatment in a hospital there, Babar continued his journey to Saudi Arabia. After a three-week overseas trip, he returned to the country.
According to local sources, Babar will arrive at his ancestral home in his village on February 23, where he will stay for three days. During this time, he will hold meetings with local leaders and activists.
Upazila BNP President Nurul Alam Talukdar told Liberty News, “After 17 years, Babur will be coming to his village home. We have completed all preparations for his arrival. Around 15,000 people from the Upazila will receive him in Netrokona. After that, he will visit the shrine of Hazrat Shah Sultan Comar Uddin Rumi (RA). Later, he will come to Madan Upazila.
