In condemnation of the ongoing genocide in Palestine by Israeli forces, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has decided to organize a protest rally in Dhaka. The party will also express solidarity with the upcoming ‘March for Gaza’ program on Saturday.
The decision was made at a BNP National Standing Committee meeting held Monday night at the party chairperson’s office in Gulshan. The meeting was chaired virtually by BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman from London. It marked the first strategic meeting of the party’s top leadership since Eid-ul-Fitr.
According to senior BNP leaders, the Standing Committee strongly condemned the Israeli attacks on Gaza, describing them as brutal and genocidal. The party called for an immediate end to the violence and resolved to stage a large-scale protest in Dhaka soon.
BNP’s affiliated wings have already been holding separate protest programs on the issue. Now, the central leadership has also taken up the matter with a plan for a major demonstration this week, aiming to draw significant public participation to denounce Israel’s actions.
In addition, BNP will join the ‘March for Gaza’ program scheduled for April 12 in the capital, organized by the Palestine Solidarity Movement Bangladesh. The event, expected to draw thousands, will feature religious scholars including Shaykh Ahmadullah. A BNP delegation led by Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed will participate to express solidarity.
Speaking to reporters, Salahuddin Ahmed said, “BNP will launch its own protest programs against the Israeli genocide in Palestine. Besides, we will also join the ‘March for Gaza’ rally this Saturday as a mark of our solidarity.”
Liberty News’ political correspondent states that the ‘March for Gaza’ is being billed as one of the largest public demonstrations in Dhaka in support of the people of Palestine, amid global outrage over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
