The Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) has decided to hold its much-awaited executive committee election in Cox’s Bazar during the upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 30 November. This decision was finalized at the BOA Executive Committee meeting held on Monday afternoon at Kurmitola Golf Club in Dhaka Cantonment.
In the absence of BOA President and Chief of Army General Waker-Uz-Zaman, who is currently abroad on official duties, the meeting was presided over by Vice-President Anjan Chowdhury. He thanked the attending executive members before initiating the discussions.
The main agenda of the meeting was to ensure a fair and transparent election process by forming an election commission and updating the councilors’ list. After discussions, it was unanimously decided that the election of the BOA Executive Committee will take place alongside the AGM in Cox’s Bazar, subject to the President’s presence.
A three-member election commission was formed to conduct the polls. Former BKSP Director General Brigadier General (Retd.) Salehin Monowar has been appointed as the Chief Election Commissioner.
The other two members will include a Joint Secretary-level representative from the Ministry of Youth and Sports and Mrs. Tahmina Rahman, a member of the Bangladesh Archery Federation’s executive committee. The election will be conducted as per the existing BOA constitution.
Another key outcome of the meeting was the confirmation of the updated list of councilors from various federations, associations, and organizations. Additionally, it was decided to honor and provide financial rewards to the men’s and women’s kabaddi teams for their historic bronze medal achievements at the 3rd Asian Youth Games held in Bahrain.
