Two men who went missing in separate drowning incidents in Khagrachari’s Dighinala and Laxmichhari upazilas have been found dead after extensive search operations by the Fire Service and local authorities.

The bodies of two individuals swept away by strong currents in Khagrachari have been recovered following separate incidents in the Dighinala and Laxmichhari regions. The victims were reported missing on Friday during sudden water surges in local rivers and canals.

In Dighinala’s Babuchhara union, the body of Tarit Chakma, 55, was retrieved from the Maini River nearly 24 hours after he disappeared while attempting to collect floating firewood. A diving team from Rangamati Fire Service, led by Sub-Officer Siddiqur Rahman, recovered the body around 7:30 a.m. on Saturday. Following legal procedures, the body was handed over to the victim’s family.

Dighinala Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Zakaria confirmed the handover and said, “After completing legal formalities, the body was released to the family for burial.”

In a separate incident in Laxmichhari upazila, 19-year-old Ukraching Marma drowned while fishing in a local canal. His body was recovered on Friday afternoon, approximately 50 meters from the site, with the assistance of locals and the Laxmichhari Fire Service and Civil Defence. The rescue effort was led by acting Sub-Officer Md Rafique Ahmed.

The district administration has provided Tk 25,000 in emergency financial assistance to Ukraching Marma’s family for burial expenses, delivered through Laxmichhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Setu Barua.

The back-to-back tragedies have cast a shadow over the local communities, prompting renewed concerns over river safety during the monsoon season.
