A young man’s body was discovered floating in the sea off the coast of Maheshkhali in Cox’s Bazar. His family alleges that he was murdered, citing claims of assault before his disappearance.

The body of an 18-year-old man, Nazmul Hasan, was recovered from the sea this morning in the waters near Bahaddar’s Mukh area of Kutubjom Union, Maheshkhali, Cox’s Bazar. The body was found floating at around 7:00 AM.

Nazmul, a resident of Ghonarpura village in Maheshkhali, had gone out the previous night to help load salt onto a boat. His family was informed that he had fallen into the water around 11:00 PM and went missing while working on the boat.

Nazmul’s father, Mohammad Ferdous, expressed his suspicions, stating that he had been told by others that his son had been assaulted by fellow workers aboard the boat. He claims that the assault led to his son’s drowning. Ferdous has indicated that he will pursue legal action based on these allegations.

The boat’s owner, Mohammad Ismail, however, denied the accusations of assault. He explained that the boat, which had three workers, was anchored in the Taziyakata Canal of Kutubjom Union to load salt. Ismail stated that during the process of tying the rope to anchor the boat, Nazmul fell into the water and disappeared. Despite efforts to locate him that night, Nazmul’s body was found only the following morning.

Liberty News’ local correspondent states that Maheshkhali Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge, Mohammad Kaiser Hamid, confirmed that signs of injury were found on Nazmul’s eyes during the autopsy report, and further investigation will determine the cause of death after the post-mortem report is received.
