Renowned Bollywood actor Mukul Dev, known for his versatile roles across Hindi, Punjabi, South Indian films, and television, has passed away at the age of 54.

On Friday, May 23, popular Indian actor Mukul Dev took his last breath after battling illness for several days. He had been admitted to the ICU, according to Indian media outlet Hindustan Times.

The news of his death was confirmed on Saturday, May 24, by fellow actor Manoj Bajpayee through a heartfelt social media post. “Words cannot express how I feel right now. Mukul was like a soul brother to me. His warmth and passion as an artist were unmatched. He left us too soon. I’m praying for strength for his family. Miss you meri jaan… until we meet again. Om Shanti,” Bajpayee wrote.

Actor Vindu Dara Singh, who worked with Dev in Son of Sardaar, also confirmed the news to India Today. He expressed deep sorrow, saying, “It’s heartbreaking that we won’t see Mukul on the big screen again. After losing his parents, he had become very withdrawn. His health deteriorated in recent days, and he was hospitalized. My condolences to his family and loved ones. He was a wonderful human being—we will all miss him dearly.”

Actress and friend Deepshikha Nagpal paid tribute on Instagram, sharing a photo with Mukul. “He never spoke about his illness. We had a WhatsApp group of friends, and we regularly chatted. When I woke up this morning and saw the news, I kept calling his number, hoping he’d pick up,” she told India Today.

Born on September 17, 1970, into a Punjabi family, Mukul Dev began his acting journey with the TV series Mumkin in 1996. That same year, he made his Bollywood debut in Dastak opposite Sushmita Sen.

His film credits include popular titles like Yamla Pagla Deewana, Son of Sardaar, R… Rajkumar, Don, and Jai Ho. In Bengali cinema, he shared the screen with superstar Jeet in Awara, Bachchan, and Sultan: The Saviour.

A graduate of Delhi’s St. Columba’s School, Mukul was also trained in aviation at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Aviation, highlighting his multifaceted life.

The Indian entertainment industry has lost a cherished artist whose presence on screen and off will be dearly missed.
