Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has intensified its anti-smuggling drive along the Brahmanbaria–Cumilla frontier, seizing illegal Indian goods worth approximately Tk 5.4 million in the first week of May.

According to BGB sources, the Sultanpur Battalion (60 BGB) carried out multiple operations across the border regions of Brahmanbaria and Cumilla, confiscating a wide range of smuggled items.

The seized items include Indian narcotics such as cannabis, Phensedyl syrup, and whiskey. In addition, BGB recovered various contraband goods brought through illegal channels, including coffee, cumin, shrimp fry, fireworks, and cosmetics.

Lieutenant Colonel Md. Ziaur Rahman, Commander of the Sultanpur Battalion, stated, “BGB is operating with maximum vigilance to prevent cross-border smuggling. These operations are being carried out based on intelligence reports and will continue.”

Local residents acknowledged the impact of the BGB’s proactive measures, saying smuggling activities in the border areas have declined significantly. They expressed hope that the force will continue such drives to safeguard national and regional security.
