The Bangladesh Poultry Association (BPA) has called off its earlier decision to halt egg and chicken production across the country starting May 1, following a fruitful meeting with the Department of Livestock Services and ministry officials.
On Monday, April 21, the Bangladesh Poultry Association issued a press release stating the withdrawal of its planned protest that aimed to suspend poultry farming nationwide from May 1. The decision came after a key meeting between BPA leaders, small-scale poultry farmers from various districts, and senior officials of the Department of Livestock Services (DLS), including the ministry’s advisor Farida Akhter and the Director General of the DLS.
During the meeting, the DG of the department listened to the 10-point demands raised by the farmers and assured immediate action to resolve key concerns, particularly regarding rising production costs and unfair market prices.
The DG also promised swift steps to stabilize feed prices and enforce fair market rates for eggs and chicken as determined by the government. According to the BPA, feed prices have already dropped by 1 to 1.5 taka per kilogram due to recent government directives. Investigations are also underway to regulate the prices of feed, chicks, and veterinary medicines.
The BPA expressed satisfaction with the government’s timely intervention and confirmed that all poultry farms will continue operations from May 1 as usual. Farmers have been urged to follow all legal guidelines while running their farms.
However, the association also warned that if the 10-point demand is not fulfilled in the future, they may initiate tougher actions to press their cause.
