British Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated his goal to establish the UK as an artificial intelligence “superpower” and pledged to adopt a innovation friendly stance in his regulatory approach, provide academics with public data and establish data centre zones.

After borrowing rates skyrocketed, Starmer, whose Labour government is predicted to have little option but to reduce spending, stated that he wants to make artificial intelligence the focal of his goal to expand the economy.

Over a 10 year period, the technology may boost production by 1.5% yearly, or an additional 47 billion pounds ($57 billion), according to the government.

While striking a balance between the need for some limitations on the technology and the drive for expansion, nations from all over the world are vying to become centres of AI.

According to Stanford University, Britain’s economy is the sixth largest in the world, trailing only the US and China in terms of investment and patents.

Following business confidence being damaged by the Labour government’s largest tax-raising budget since 1993 and the Bank of England’s projection last month that the economy not grow in the most recent quarter, Britain’s economy desperately needs new impetus.

According to Starmer, AI has the potential to improve people’s lives by assisting small businesses, expediting planning consultations, and relieving medical professionals and educators of administrative duties.
