The United Kingdom is ready to send peacekeeping forces to Ukraine. Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced on Sunday (February 16) that he is prepared to send British troops to Ukraine as part of a peacekeeping mission after the war ends.
According to a report by the British news agency Reuters, Prime Minister Keir Starmer said on Sunday that he is ready to send British troops to Ukraine as part of a post-war peacekeeping force. He wants to show the United States that European countries should play a role in discussions to end the conflict.
The British Prime Minister clarified that he did not make this decision to expose British soldiers to “casualties.” However, he stated that this is essential to deter Russian President Vladimir Putin from further aggression and to ensure “lasting peace” for Ukraine.
Earlier, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that any “real negotiations” to end the Ukraine war must include Ukraine and Europe. He suggested that this week, during USA talks with Russia, there will be an opportunity to see how much importance Putin places on peace.
Keir Starmer wrote in the Daily Telegraph that the termination of the war between Ukraine and Russia should not be seen as a temporary pause before Putin resumes his aggression.
Starmer also wrote, “We are ready to contribute to ensuring Ukraine’s security by deploying our own forces if necessary.”
In his article, he emphasized, “I do not say this lightly. I deeply feel the responsibility that comes with putting British soldiers at risk.”
In response to the call for talks about Ukraine, French President Emmanuel Macron is expected to join German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and other European leaders in Paris on Monday.
