Five Bangladeshi farmers were allegedly assaulted by members of the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) after they reportedly entered Bangladeshi territory at the Gorakmandal border in Kurigram’s Fulbari upazila on Friday.
The incident occurred near the 930 main pillar at the border area of Naodanga Union.
According to locals, members of the 138 Narayanganj BSF camp crossed the border into Bangladesh in the afternoon. When the locals confronted them, the BSF personnel reportedly became aggressive and assaulted them. As villagers gathered and chased them away, the BSF members retreated.
The injured farmers, identified as Shamsul, Javed Ali, Tajul Islam, Kashem Ali, and Ripon, are residents of Krishnanand Bakshi village near the border. They received local medical treatment for their injuries.
Liberty News’ local correspondent reports that Lieutenant Colonel Shah Md. Shakil Alam, Commander of the Lalmonirhat 15 BGB Battalion, stated, “We have received complaints from locals that BSF members entered Bangladeshi territory in Krishnanand village and assaulted citizens. We are investigating the matter.”
