A member of India’s Border Security Force (BSF) was detained by locals near the Johorpur border area in Chapainawabganj on Wednesday morning for allegedly crossing into Bangladesh territory illegally.
According to sources, the incident occurred around 8:00 AM on June 4 in the Johorpur-Tek area under Sadar Upazila. Locals noticed the BSF soldier, identified as Ganesh Murti, entering Bangladesh and detained him on suspicion. A crowd quickly gathered at the scene before Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel arrived and took the soldier into custody. Lieutenant Colonel Fahad Mahmud, commander of BGB Battalion-53, confirmed the detention and said the BSF member was found to be under the influence of alcohol. “He was rescued from an agitated mob and is now in BGB custody,” said Mahmud, adding that steps are being taken to return the BSF personnel through a flag meeting, pending higher-level approval. Narayanpur Union Parishad Chairman Nazir Hossain said, “Locals spotted the Indian soldier entering the Johorpur border area and held him. The BGB later took him into their custody.” Further details are expected following the flag meeting between the border forces of the two countries.
