Thirteen Bangladeshi nationals, including women and children, were forcibly pushed into Bangladesh by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) through the Cumilla border in the early hours of Thursday, according to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
The incident took place between 12:30 AM and 4:30 AM on Thursday (May 23), when Indian BSF pushed 13 people across the border under the cover of darkness, claimed Lieutenant Colonel Mir Ali Ejaz, commander of the 10 BGB Battalion in Cumilla.
According to BGB sources, a patrol team of the 10 BGB intercepted the group as they were illegally entering Bangladesh from India. Among them were three men, three women, and seven children.
Preliminary interrogation revealed that they were forced into Bangladesh by the BSF. BGB officials are currently verifying their identities.
Lt. Col. Ejaz stated, “The detained individuals are in BGB custody. Once the verification process is complete, they will be handed over to the respective district administration.”
BGB has strongly condemned the illegal push-in and is expected to lodge a formal protest with BSF through a flag meeting.
