Two Bangladeshi nationals, including an SSC examinee, were handed back by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) after an eight-hour detention for filming TikTok videos near the international border.

The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) returned two Bangladeshi citizens — an SSC candidate and his uncle — through the Burimari land port’s zero line around 2:00 am on Friday (May 2), following a flag meeting with the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).

The detainees were identified as Rimon, son of Mostak Hossain from Patgram upazila, and Sajedul Islam, son of Saiful Islam from Bogura. The two, related as uncle and nephew, were picked up by BSF around 6:00 pm Friday near sub-pillar 825 of the Gatiarpara border area while recording TikTok videos beside an Indian tea garden, located just across the barbed-wire fence.

According to BGB sources, BSF personnel apprehended the duo after they crossed into a restricted area. In response, the BGB promptly contacted BSF and requested a flag meeting, which ultimately led to their release.

Rimon and Sajedul were later handed over to their respective families in the presence of local representatives and law enforcement, following a written bond. Commander Nayeb Subedar Moktar Hossain of Dhabalsuti BGB Camp under 61 Tista-2 Battalion confirmed the safe return and emphasized the importance of avoiding zero-line crossings.

Locals and the victims’ families expressed gratitude to the BGB for their swift and effective action. Patgram Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Zillur Rahman also acknowledged BSF’s cooperation in responding to BGB’s call for a peaceful resolution.
