India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is expected to skip the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 in the UAE, as the national selectors look to manage his workload ahead of a packed international calendar.

The tournament is scheduled to begin on 9 September and conclude on 29 September. However, India’s two-match Test series against the West Indies starts just three days later, on 2 October in Ahmedabad. With such tight scheduling, it appears unlikely that Bumrah will feature in both events.

According to sources, selectors including Agarkar and new Team India mentor Gautam Gambhir are expected to decide soon whether Bumrah will be rested through the Asia Cup or the West Indies Tests. “If Bumrah plays the Asia Cup and India reaches the final, it’s almost impossible for him to recover in time for the West Indies series,” a source was quoted as saying.

The more likely scenario is that Bumrah will sit out the Asia Cup and return for the high-stakes Test series against South Africa in November, which will be crucial for India’s World Test Championship campaign. Alternatively, he may skip the West Indies Tests and focus on limited-overs cricket, including the T20I series against New Zealand in January—seen as vital preparation for the 2026 T20 World Cup at home.
