A businessman in Barishal, identified as Masudur Rahman (45), died after being stabbed by his alleged lover. The incident occurred on Wednesday night, and he succumbed to his injuries on Friday at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.
Barishal Kotwali Model Police Station OC Mizanur Rahman confirmed the incident. The victim’s brother, Mahfuzur Rahman, claimed that the woman, named Shanta, stabbed Masud while trying to snatch Tk 2 lakh related to his bakery business.
According to the police, Masud was initially reluctant to file a complaint, stating it was an accident, leading to Shanta’s release after her initial detention. OC Mizan stated that Masud and Shanta were involved in an extramarital relationship, which may have influenced his decision to suppress the matter.
Masudur Rahman, a resident of Barishal’s Notun Bazar area, was the son of Habibur Rahman and owned a bakery. Shanta, the accused, is the daughter of Shawkat Molla of College Avenue.
Mahfuzur added that Masud left home with Tk 2 lakh to purchase bakery supplies. Shanta allegedly called him to her residence, where she and her brother Lokman Hossain pressured him for the money. When he refused, Shanta reportedly stabbed him in the abdomen. Locals rushed him to the hospital with the help of police.
Following the incident, Shanta has gone into hiding. Police say further investigation is underway, and legal action will be taken accordingly.
