Call for UAE to lift visa ban and recruit more workers

Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, chief advisor, has called upon the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to lift visa restrictions on Bangladeshi citizens and recruit more Bangladeshi workers.

He made this appeal during meetings with several UAE ministers while attending the two-day World Governments Summit in Dubai.

During the discussions, he invited UAE companies to relocate their factories to Bangladesh. Following a proposal by UAE Minister of Economy Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Dr. Yunus agreed in principle to establish a special industrial park for UAE businesses in Bangladesh.

During the summit, the chief advisor held meetings with several UAE ministers. Discussions included the visa restrictions on Bangladeshi citizens, expanding trade and commerce, UAE’s investment plans in Chattogram Port, and strengthening ties in sports , education, among other mutual interests.

The interim government head told the UAE Minister of Economy that UAE companies could develop Bangladesh as a ‘halal product manufacturing hub,’ offering low-cost labor advantages.

The UAE Minister of Economy expressed his intention to visit Bangladesh with a high-level trade and investment delegation in the coming months.

During the visit, Foreign Affairs Advisor Tawhid Hossain, chief advisor’s Special Envoy Lutfi Siddiqui, and Senior Secretary Lamia Morshed accompanied the chief advisor.
