The press release was released around 1 AM on February 7th. The release stated that : ‘The interim government is ready to protect the safety of citizens. Any attempt to destabilize the country through any kind of provocative activities, the law enforcement agencies will immediately take strict action against the responsible individuals and groups and bring the culprits to justice.’
It also stated : ‘The interim government observes with deep concern that some individuals and groups are attempting to vandalize & arson various institutions and establishments across the country. The government will strongly resist such activities.’
Liberty News’ national affairs correspondent reports that vandalism and arson across the country has been going on since the evening of 4th February, 2025. It seems the targeted sites are owned by/affiliated with leaders of the former AL government.
Although law enforcement agencies showed up in some of the sites, no action was seen to be taken to thwart the ongoing activities.
Earlier on the night (around 12:30 AM), a group of students marched towards and breached barricades in the capital’s Minto Road – in an attempt to reach and demand the Home Affairs Advisor to resign.
They stopped after Youth & Sports Advisor Asif Mahmud reached the scene and assured the students. The reason they did this was for an attack on “students at hatiya” by alleged BAL miscreants earlier on February 6th.
