An attempted cocktail explosion and arson attack has been carried out at the Mymensingh residence of Dhaka University’s DUCSU-elected independent member Umma Uswatun Rafi, leaving the family in a state of fear.
The incident occurred around 2:45 AM on Wednesday (19 November) in the Dholadia area of Ward No. 1 under Mymensingh City Corporation.
According to the family, unidentified attackers detonated a cocktail at the house gate in the dead of night and then attempted to set the house on fire by spraying kerosene and petrol-based flammable substances.
Rafi’s brother, Khandakar Julkar Nain Rad, said that upon receiving the information, police from Kotwali Model Police Station quickly visited the scene. He added that a formal complaint has been filed at the station, and the family has demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible.
Muhammad Shibirul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Model Police Station, stated that a case has been filed under the Explosives Act against unidentified individuals following an inspection of the scene. He confirmed that the matter is being investigated with utmost importance and that efforts are underway to arrest the culprits swiftly.
