A case has been filed against Rakhal Raha, also known as Sazzadur Rahman, a member of the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB), for allegedly insulting religious sentiments through social media.

A Dhaka court has accepted a case filed by Sazzad Hossain accusing Rakhal Raha, a member of the NCTB’s textbook revision committee, of making derogatory remarks about Islam. The case was taken up on Monday, March 3, by Judge Noor Alam of the Cyber Tribunal in Dhaka. Sazzad Hossain, the complainant, filed the case after Raha allegedly posted offensive content on his Facebook account on February 17, 2025. The post, which was later shared by various media outlets, is claimed to have aimed at disparaging Islam.

According to Hossain’s lawyer, Mohammad Jewel, the court accepted the case and instructed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to conduct an investigation. The CID has been ordered to submit a report by May 22, 2025.

Liberty News’ court correspondent states that Hossain had attempted to file the case at the Motijheel police station on February 25, but was advised to go to court instead. Following this advice, he proceeded with the legal proceedings. Hossain has requested the court to ensure justice for those who follow Islam by arresting the accused and summoning witnesses.

The court has instructed the case to be registered and investigations to proceed.
