Cattle prices are slightly lower this year due to sufficient supply and reduced black money circulation, said Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury after visiting Gabtoli cattle market on Thursday.
Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Thursday remarked that cattle prices are “comparatively lower” this year as he visited the Gabtoli cattle market ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
“There is a sufficient supply of sacrificial animals this year and buyers are unlikely to face difficulties in purchasing cattle,” he said, noting that the overall market situation appears stable and affordable.
Responding to media queries, the adviser said prices at Gabtoli were “reasonably affordable” and added, “It seems to me that cattle prices are slightly lower this year than previous years.”
Asked why the sale of large cattle seemed slow, he explained, “Previously, many people had pockets full of black money. Now, with reduced corruption, they don’t have that kind of money. Still, there are many honest people who can afford big cattle and will buy them.”
He also assured that adequate security arrangements have been made at cattle markets across the city to ensure a safe and smooth buying experience.
Regarding Eid-time security in Dhaka, the adviser said law enforcement agencies will remain active throughout the holidays, ensuring the capital remains secure even as many residents travel outside the city.
Earlier in the day, while inspecting Gabtoli Bus Terminal, he told reporters that he had received no complaints regarding overpricing of tickets or artificial transport crises. He acknowledged that rain had contributed to traffic congestion in some areas but assured that measures were being taken to minimize such disruptions on highways.
