Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has said he expects the schedule for the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election to be announced in the second week of December.

He made the remarks on Saturday while speaking to journalists after inspecting the ongoing mock voting exercise at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Government Girls’ High School in the capital.

Responding to questions about the referendum campaign, the CEC said that a full-scale promotional drive has yet to begin. He added that the government and the Election Commission (EC) will jointly undertake extensive publicity efforts. “Preparations are being made accordingly,” he noted.

Touching on the law and order situation, Nasir Uddin said that it has “never been ideal” but is now significantly improved compared to before. “Police, Ansar, BGB, RAB and the army are all working actively. Incidents of theft and mugging have occurred in the past as well, but these are isolated cases. The situation will improve further,” he asserted.

Regarding the mock voting initiative, the CEC explained that the EC aimed to assess the overall environment needed for conducting an election under an ‘ideal’ scenario. He said the public had not witnessed the voting process for the past 15 years.

“This mock voting has been arranged to demonstrate the process and familiarise people with voting. We are also observing how much time voters require to cast two ballots,” he added.
