A symbolic portrait of fascism, created by the Faculty of Fine Arts (Charukola) at the University of Dhaka (DU) for the Pahela Baishakh Mangal Shobhajatra (festive procession), has been reported to have ‘burned down’.
The incident occurred early Saturday morning, confirmed Associate Professor Saifuddin Ahmed, the university’s Proctor, to Bangla Tribune. However, it is still unclear how the fire started.
The Proctor said that along with the portrait of fascism, a dove figure was also burned.
“We have yet to identify who started the fire. Efforts are underway to check CCTV footage,” he added.
