Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has instructed the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC) to hold Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examinations on schedule every year, maintaining strict transparency throughout the process.
The directive came on Sunday afternoon during a meeting with PSC officials at the state guesthouse Jamuna.
“Examinations and recruitment must be completed at a fixed time each year according to the calendar. The BCS exam is the entry point. Those who pass this exam will run the government. If irregularities occur at this entry point, the entire system will be affected,” Yunus said.
He emphasised that existing challenges and crises must be resolved responsibly, and necessary reforms undertaken collectively.
“This is essential for those who will govern the country in the future,” he added.
During the meeting, PSC Chairman Professor Dr Mobasher Monem highlighted the need to establish financial and administrative autonomy for the commission.
He also noted that the PSC has already developed a five-year roadmap under which examinations and recruitment will be completed annually between November and the following October.
PSC members stated that for the past 15 years, political interference had led to irregularities such as nepotism and question paper leaks in the BCS exams.
They assured that reforms have been implemented to prevent such incidents from recurring and to restore public confidence in the PSC. The quality of question papers is being upgraded so that candidates can also compete in global job markets with their preparation.
The meeting was attended by PSC Chairman Professor Mobasher Monem, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration Md Mokhlesur Rahman, Chief Secretary to the Chief Adviser Sirajuddin Mia, and PSC members Md Sujayet Ullah, Md Zahirul Islam Bhuiyan, Professor M Sohel Rahman, Professor Chowdhury Saima Ferdous, Brigadier General (Retd) Md Anwarul Islam, Professor Shahnaz Sarker, along with Secretary of the PSC Secretariat Md Sanowar Jahan Bhuiyan.
