In a message for International Mother Language Day, Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting the use of the Bangla language in information technology, alongside efforts to distribute textbooks in various indigenous languages.

Interim Government Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus emphasized that the government is working to ensure the widespread use of the Bangla language in the field of information technology. He also highlighted that textbooks in Bangla and Braille, as well as materials in various indigenous languages, are being distributed free of charge.

In his message on the occasion of Language Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day, Dr. Yunus stated that the interim government, formed during the July Revolution, continues its relentless efforts to uphold the dignity of the nation’s languages, which is essential for the country’s progress and prosperity.

Dr. Yunus expressed his respect for the Bengali language and all languages worldwide, citing UNESCO’s collaboration with Bangladesh since 2000 in celebrating this important day. This year’s theme, “Make Language Count for Sustainable Development,” he said, is highly appropriate.

Reflecting on the history of the Bangladeshi people’s struggle, Dr. Yunus noted that the first victory in their freedom struggle came on February 21, 1952. He emphasized the immense importance of the Language Movement, which laid the foundation for a secular, democratic, language-based state system. On this day, heroes like Abul Barkat, Abdul Jabbar, Abdus Salam, Rafiq Uddin Ahmed, and Shafiur Rahman sacrificed their lives to protect the honor of the Bangla language.

Dr. Yunus further mentioned that Bangla gained official status as the state language in 1956, and February 21 was declared Martyrs’ Day, with a national holiday. In 1999, UNESCO officially recognized February 21 as International Mother Language Day.

Liberty News’ national correspondent states that he concluded by extending his best wishes and congratulations to all on the occasion of Language Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day 2025, wishing success for all the related activities.
