Clashes broke out during the EC’s hearing on boundary re-demarcation

Clashes broke out during a hearing on the petitions regarding the redemarcation of parliamentary constituencies ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Elections. The incident occurred at the Election Commission building in Agargaon around 12:45 pm on Sunday (24 August).

At that time, the hearing on the boundary redemarcation of Brahmanbaria-1 and Brahmanbaria-2 constituencies was underway. Additional law enforcement personnel were deployed at the Election Commission premises to bring the situation under control.

Earlier, around 12:00 pm, the hearing on the boundary redemarcation began at the EC building. On this day, hearings were scheduled on a total of 18 constituencies from Cumilla, Brahmanbaria, Noakhali, Chandpur, Feni, and Lakshmipur districts.

Out of 811 petitions submitted to the Election Commission, 431 opposed the draft boundary, while 380 were in favor.

Chief Election Commissioner A.M.M. Nasir Uddin, along with other election commissioners, was present at the hearing. Strict security measures were taken at the EC office in connection with the hearing.
