A cloth trader in Old Dhaka, injured by a sharp object in an altercation, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital early Sunday.
Selim Raja, 40, died around 2:15 AM on Sunday at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment, police confirmed.
According to his family, Selim was injured on Friday afternoon in Islampur under Kotwali Police Station. He was allegedly attacked with a pair of scissors by his brother-in-law, Sumon, during a financial dispute.
“Selim had been in a financial disagreement with Sumon for some time. To resolve the matter, a family meeting was arranged at Selim’s office in Islampur on Friday. During the discussion, an argument broke out, and Sumon attacked Selim with a scissor from the office,” said Selim’s elder brother, Md Rafiqul Islam.
Selim was first taken to Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital for initial treatment before being transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he died the following night.
Inspector Md Faruk of Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s police outpost confirmed that Selim’s body is at the hospital’s morgue and that the matter has been reported to the relevant police station.
Sumon’s statement regarding the allegation could not be obtained immediately.
Liberty News’ crime correspondent states that Selim was originally from Bakerganj upazila in Barishal. He lived with his family in Islampur, Old Dhaka.
