A college student was found hanging at his home in the capital’s Moghbazar area on Wednesday night.
The deceased was identified as Shahnewaz Jamal, 18, an intermediate first-year student of Will’s Little Flower School and College. He was the son of Abdul Malek from Kadirpur village in Shibchar upazila of Madaripur district.
According to police, Shahnewaz locked his room and hanged himself from a ceiling fan with a scarf at their rented flat in Boro Moghbazar under Ramna Police Station. Family members discovered the incident and immediately informed the police.
A team led by Sub-Inspector (SI) Azizul Haque of Ramna Police Station, along with family members, took him to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital emergency unit around midnight, where doctors declared him dead.
SI Haque said the student had been suffering from some mental health issues. Following a request from him family, the police handed over the body without an autopsy.
