A Dhaka court on Friday sent Professor SM Ashraful Alam Ashkor, head of the Bangla Department at Tejgaon College and acting president of Kashimpur Thana Awami League, to jail in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nazmin Akter passed the order after police produced the accused before the court, seeking his detention.
Earlier on 18 September, police arrested Ashraful Alam from the Farmgate area of the capital.
According to the case documents, leaders and activists of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League and Bangladesh Awami League, Jubo League, and affiliated bodies brought out a procession in Monipuripara, under Tejgaon Police Station in the capital, on 7 September.
They exploded two cocktails in an attempt to destabilise the state and create panic among the public.
A case was filed on 7 September under the Anti-Terrorism Act at Tejgaon Police Station regarding the matter.
