Commerce Adviser excluded as accused in uprising killing case

A Dhaka court on Tuesday dropped Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin as an accused from the FIR in a July Uprising killing case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Jamshed Alam ordered for dropping the adviser’s name in response to the investigating officer’s recommendation, confirmed DMP Deputy Commissioner Mia Mohammad Ashis Bin Hasan.

On 19 September, one named Sufia Begum filed a murder case with the Rampura Police Station against 57 people, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina. Bashir Uddin was the 49th accused in the case.

As per the case statement, Virgo Garments Company Executive Mechanical Engineer Md Sohan Shah, 30, was shot near the Rampura CNG refueling station on 19 July last year, as the then government-backed forces attacked the job quota reform protesters.

He succumbed to his injuries on 28 August that year.

On 24 November this year, RAB-3 Sub-Inspector Md Mostafizur Rahman submitted the interim probe report to the court, recommending the exclusion of Adviser Bashir Uddin as an accused in the case.

Bashir Uddin had no connection with the killing, the report stated.
