A subcommittee has been formed, led by Dhaka University Proctor Associate Professor Saifuddin Ahmed, to enhance and ensure the security of Suhrawardy Udyan adjacent to the university campus.
In a meeting held Tuesday at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium conference room, chaired by Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works Shakila Zerin, the decision to form the subcommittee was made. The committee has been instructed to submit its recommendations within three days.
In addition to security measures, another subcommittee has been established to develop proposals for beautifying Suhrawardy Udyan, similar to Ramna Park.
Authorities have already conducted drives in response to Dhaka University’s request, evicting floating people and mobile vendors from the area. Daily anti-narcotics operations are ongoing, while 24 CCTV cameras have been installed, and 85 lights have been added for improved visibility. Plans are underway to establish two permanent camps—one for the Department of Narcotics Control and another for the police. The number of Ansar personnel has been increased to 40.
Representatives from Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Dhaka South City Corporation, Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, Narcotics Control Department, the Kali Mandir authority, and Bangla Academy attended the meeting along with the DU proctor.
