A Dhaka court on Monday placed former Awami League lawmaker from Dhaka-7, Solaiman Selim, on a three-day remand in a murder case related to the anti-discrimination student movement that took place in July last year.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate GM Farhan Ishtiaq passed the order after the investigation office of the case produced him before the court, seeking a seven-day remand.
During the hearing, Shamsuddoha Sumon, state prosecutor, said Khalid, a student of the Ideal College, died after being shot while he was carrying out the anti-discrimination student movement at Azimpur Government Residential Area on 18 July last year.
A media report also claimed that Solaiman was present at the spot during the killing.
Remand is required for interrogating the accused to gain more information about the murder incident, the IO said in the petition.
Kamrul Hasan, father of the deceased, filed the case on 19 August, claiming that his son died after being shot during the anti-discrimination student movement by Solaiman.
Mohammad Solaiman Salim is an Awami League politician and a former member of the Jatiya Sangsad, representing the Dhaka-7 constituency.
In November 2024, Salim was arrested from Gulshan area of the capital, Dhaka, after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government.
