A Dhaka court has formally charged expelled Dhaka South Jubo League president Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat in a corruption case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). The court also issued an arrest warrant after he failed to appear for the hearing on Thursday.
Judge Md Zakaria Hossain of Dhaka Special Judge’s Court-6 rejected a time extension request from the defense and scheduled 17 August for witness testimony.
Samrat and his associate Enamul Haque Arman were arrested during an anti-casino drive on 6 October 2019 in Cumilla. Though Samrat was granted bail in August 2022, the ACC later filed a case against him for allegedly amassing illegal wealth worth Tk 3 crore.
On 26 November 2020, the ACC submitted a charge sheet accusing him of illegally acquiring wealth exceeding Tk 222 crore.
